Causes of Tooth Sensitivity
Causes of Tooth Sensitivity What Causes Tooth Sensitivity? Tooth sensitivity can come and go over time and is usually caused by gum disease and/or exposed dentin in root areas from gingival recession. Unlike the crowns of your teeth, the root of your tooth is protected by cement, not enamel. When the enamel or cementum wears off, the nerves inside the tooth are exposed, which can cause tooth sensitivity. Common causes of erosion include:

➔ Use of abrasive toothpaste
➔ an acidic diet
➔ acid reflux disease
➔ bulimia
➔ Extreme teeth whitening
➔ teeth grinding

Types of Dental Veneers
Talk to your dentist about any toothache or tooth sensitivity to cold, hot, acidic or sweet drinks or foods. Tooth decay and cavities should be ruled out or treated. Your dentist may recommend a desensitizing toothpaste or fluoride gel toothpaste for home use. More severe cases of tooth sensitivity may require a filling, gum graft, or root canal.
